In addition to the usual process of downloading a .Hex file and dragging and dropping it on to the micro:bit, it is possible to set the micro:bit as the download in order to directly flash the file to device.
Here's how to do this in the three most popular browsers:
Chrome
- Open chrome://settings in a new browser tab and search for Download.
- Scroll to the Download section of settings and switch the Ask where to save each file before downloading to on.
- The next time you download a hex file from Chrome, you will be asked where you want to save this and you can choose the micro:bit drive as the location.
Safari
- Open the safari preferences from the app's file menu
- Navigate to the general tab and where it states the download location choose Ask for each download from the drop down menu.
- The next time you download a hex file from Safari, you will be asked where you want to save this and you can choose the micro:bit drive as the location.
Edge
Open the Edge browser settings by expanding the options menu in the top right of the browser window and navigating to Settings.
Navigate to Advanced Settings and to Downloads and switch the Ask me what to do with each download switch to on.
The next time you download a hex file from Edge, you will be asked where you want to save this and you can choose the micro:bit drive as the location.
