The micro:bit is supplied with a cable that has micro USB type B on one end (this connects to the micro:bit) and USB-A on the other end (designed to connect to a computer).

If you would like to use a cable to attach your micro:bit to an Android device it will need to be the right type to fit your Android device. Typically the socket on your Android device will be USB-C (instead of USB-A).

To achieve this you can either:

  • Use an adapter: this could be a single adapter from USB-A to USB-C or a multi-port adapter. These are widely available.
  • Use a micro USB to USB-C cable: use a cable that has micro USB at one end and USB-C at the other end (instead of USB-A).

In either case, the cable must be one that carries both data and power, some cheaper cables will only carry power. This sort of cable is sometimes referred to an on-the-go or OTG cable
