Pairing
To pair the micro:bit with your mobile device you will first need to enter pairing mode:
- Hold down the A, B and reset buttons simultaneously.
- Release the reset button. The LED screen will fill and you should then see the Bluetooth logo.
You should then see a pattern displayed on the micro:bit screen.
Copy the pattern into the app
After tapping PAIR you should receive a success message and a tick/check mark appear on the LED display.
You have now successfully paired the micro:bit.
Press reset to complete the process
Flashing
When the micro:bit has been paired with your iPad or iPhone, you can send your programs to the micro:bit. You can do this from MakeCode by pressing ‘Download’ or you can select ‘Flash’ on the Home page to send a program stored in the app.
Enter pairing mode again in order to connect to the app and flash a program:
- Hold down the A, B and reset buttons simultaneously.
- Release the reset button. The LED screen will fill and you should then see the Bluetooth logo.
Troubleshooting
- Before you start, it’s a good idea to use a computer to flash a fresh MakeCode HEX file onto your micro:bit, especially if you’ve previously been using Python with your micro:bit. Use your own program or any of our MakeCode projects. You can also use the hex file attached to this article.
- Make sure you pair your micro:bit and mobile device every time you transfer a MakeCode program.
- When pairing, make sure you hold down the A + B buttons long enough for all the LEDs on the display to light up.
- If you’re using batteries to power your micro:bit, make sure they are fresh. Even if the micro:bit seems to be working, it may not have enough power for the Bluetooth radio function to work.
